It sounds to me like this governor wants the poor of his state to 'self-deport' to a state without this requirement.

They are job training. Many of us have held those jobs at one time. They lead to the next.

If it's cost effective is a separate argument. Kasich seems to be saying that it's good for some but not others. Is this not the argument that others have argued against many times? The government picking who will be the winners?

No, they will deport to parts of the state that doesn't have this requirement making those parts even more depressed.

This is how you create the next Detroit.

Why is it wrong for those in depressed areas to undertake training?
Agreed. I personally think the program is a step in the right direction, but should be applied evenly across the board. If someone needs their life subsidized directly, put in some hours helping the community or bettering yourself to take advantage of future opportunities. It really is not too much to ask for any able-bodied member of society.

Yes.

Anything that gets people out of bed at a certain time and doing something constructive is positive job training.

What do you suggest? Brain surgery? Quantum physics?

LOL

I agree with you. There should be no exceptions to this law he is proposing.

As a matter of fact, those people in the most depressed districts need a program like this much more than the people who live where there are (apparently) jobs that they may not want to take.

Why wouldn't he want to?

I would want lowlife leeches off of my state payroll as well.

Expecting someone to work for what they get is not a bad thing.

Jesus, you're not happy unless everything is free. No one is going to give you a house, give you a better than minimum wage job, give you a car, give you an education. If you want it go work for it like the other half of the country does.
