snopes.com: Starbucks Charges 9/11 Rescue Workers $130 for Water

Still burns remembering their actions that day and the days after and didn't correct their mistake until the story made the national news more than two weeks later.

They lost stores and people. They had to send a posse of people from Seattle to all states to deliver payroll checks because planes were grounded. On a scale of 1-10, charging someone retail for water did not hit the scale during that week.

Starbucks' contribution on September 11 | Business | The Guardian

That an ambulance driver made a stink out of it, given everything else going on in lower Manhattan, at that time, says more about him than Starbucks.

This is an example of corporate mentality, do not ever empower workers to make an independent decision.

If the worker had given the water away for free, he would have been held responsible for the shortage, and probably been told to pay it. Catch 22 for minimum wage workers.

The worker made the correct decision, he is not empowered to decide what should be free. He just knows the mentality drilled into him during training.

Indeed. I've never experienced a Starbucks coffee product that didn't taste or smell burnt.

I'll cry for Starbucks after I get over the 3,000 dead from 9/11 OK ? Until then, they are just another bunch of heartless bas****s attempting to profit from a tragedy. They are over priced, over rated scumbags that should have been in tower 1. Three dollars & fifty cents for a bottle of water during the
worst terror attack in the history of the Nation ? Starbuck's can sit on it and spin.....
