How many? How does that number compare to the number of scholarships available to a student that excels in math or other academic areas?

What kind of job can being on the rifle team get you? Do they all involve the phrase "do you want fries with that"?

Seriously, you are going to use the Olympics as the benchmark for true sports?

The same Olympics with "sports" like rythmic gymnastics, curling, and dressage?

Its another avenue for a kid to get into college. Who knows where he/she goes from there. Maybe in the firearms industry. Maybe into the Olympics.

Really, because the people I know in law enforcement went to college to study criminal justice or spent time in the military as an MP. Not a single LEO I know ever participated on a high school rifle team.

Is shooting people with a rifle really a skill demanded by modern civil police agencies? In the real world how often is a LEO going to be asked to kill someone from long distance?

How many colleges actually have a rifle team? I know the two that I attended for undergrad and graduate school did not.

A quick glance at wiki indicates that it is really only about a dozen schools and a few military academies. Some of the teams are for women only, which I suspect is a workaround of Title IX.

Is this some kind of regional or rural thing?

Your right, SWAT teams never use snipers.

Math team ? So what? I got hauled downtown for computer hacking back in high school, I didn't make the yearbook for my skills either.
Classic case of mine is better then yours. Is math not important now? Hard to make accurate rifles without math, or maybe you don't know how to take into account the force of gravity on a bullet and wind velocity?
