HER country would be the United States of America. SHE is an AMERICAN. Yes, she did a Bollywood dance as her talent. Which is actually easier to relate to than the many pageant contestants over the years who've sang opera as their talent. Very few operas are in English. While I personally love opera, I can tell by the chatter around the water cooler that it's not really a key part of American culture. At least a lot of people have seen or are familiar with Bollywood dance numbers.

A few bigots do not speak for the over 330 million Americans. Let's not pretend bigotry is exclusive to whites and the USA. An Indian won the Miss America, but has a non-Indian ever won Miss India or even the Miss India USA? Could you imagine the outrage by many Indians if a non-indian ever won either of those titles?

There is nothing you can do if someone wants to cherry pick the nastiest most negative comments (real or trolling) and make news about them.

It's just not exciting news to print things like "Mathguy thinks she is gorgeous and a wonderfully intelligent woman."

No, they have to scour through the tweets and find some 15 year old trolling about her working at 7-11 or some drunken racist talkin' bout them A-rabs! Why? Ratings. It's salacious, and it generates outrage and sells ad space via increased viewership and site traffic.

You can bet Miss Kansas got a lot of horrible things said about her as well.

P.S. Keep in mind, these are the same news sources portraying Indian men as packs of mysoginistic women rapers roaming the streets of India as we speak. Sigh.

Yes I realize she has US citizenship, I only saw a tiny portion of her country's cultural dance on the news, I did not watch the pageant, I fully realize it is very politically correct and the winners are carefully chosen with political correctness except when it comes to certain aspects like weight or homeliness. There has never been a 250 pound winner, nor one that looks like Rosie Odonnell -- political correctness only goes so far.

My prediction is that the contest will now promote globalism with winners chosen who represent all kinds of countries and their cultures. The dance and skits will show all the world's cultures and the whole thing will look more like a Miss World or Miss Globe and I don't care if it does because I still won't watch it, I still think it will be silly. It will still be about Barbie doll types, but more international ones.

Yes, because there's no way that she could have been chosen over a pale skinned blue eyed blond.... It had to be pagent affirmative action. Nothing else make sense....

There were far more beautiful women she was competing against though. The decided winner was based on political correctness.

She doesn't just have US citizenship. She was born in the United States, a US citizen.

And it's a BEAUTY pageant. As long as 250 lb women and Rosie O'Donnell are not considered BEAUTIFUL, they will not win BEAUTY pageants.

The contest selects winners to REPRESENT the United States of America. The United States of America is a country with a diverse population, and a diverse culture. Miss New York won the pageant because she is beautiful. She looks very good in a bikini, and very good dressed to the gills. While the pageant always makes a big deal that it offers scholarships to contestants, and points to the talent contest and the interviews (the question in front of the audience is only a part of the "vetting" done), bottom line is that it is a BEAUTY pageant, a contest to see who is the prettiest. While personally I thought Miss Maine was prettier, and obviously there are some who thought Miss Kansas was the fairest one of all, the panel of judges decided that Miss New York was the prettiest.

And she is quite beautiful. She will now represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant, and she will also spend the year traveling, promoting causes close to her heart, and promoting causes close to the hearts of the pageant's sponsors and organizers.

She was hot to me, some would say that she was just as, if not even more beautiful than the blue eyed blonds, and the pageant isn't only decided based on looks (which are subjective). I know to some people that anytime a minority win anything over a white person, they just have to believe that it was given to them because of their race.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I am glad that someone other than a bleached blonde, fake boob, barbie type won.

No, no it wasn't. The winner was chosen because she was the best all around, objectively speaking.
