The Tea Party is mostly seniors on Medicare, VA, and Tricare for life. Those who aren't would be the same people who would be in the Klan or John Birch Society of 50 years ago. The Tea Party is still alive but are about as popular as Sarah Palin. They made a mark though between the dislike of having a black president and having someone tamper with their Medicare we got stuck with them until at least 2016 and maybe further. As much as they complain about government more than half have at least 4 government benefits that cost taxpayers hundreds of billions every year.

You need to include all low interest rate loans. Mortgages, car loans, personal lines of credit for instance have all benefited.

Occupy did next to nothing. The Tea Party has represented a necessary voice from the far Right, which in more normal times or with major War can be very beneficial in countering the taxing and dovish Left. But during harsh economic times, they have been counter productive. IMO of course.

I don't know. Does it matter? We can't reverse history. The one thing that matters is what to do now and how to revive our sluggish economy.

The tea party started when George W. was still in office. What dovish left are you referring to?

Better.

If we had not had SS and Medicare foisted upon us, even better.

If Fannie and Freddie not been created and abused, even better yet.

first off the auto industry would not have died in this country, ford was already building for the future, and GM and chrysler were headed for bankruptcy, and they filed anyway. gm and chrysler would have gone through reorganization, and been forced to change the management style of the companies. they would still have been operating, its just that their old debts would have been sequestered so they wouldnt have had that load on their books all the time, and the could have taken their time to rid themselves of that old debt. it would have also forced the unions and the automakers to come to a real deal on a contract that both sides would have been forced to live with by the courts.

as for the financial companies, they too would have had to file for bankruptcy reorganization, or liquidation. there were strong financial companies even after the crash, and they would have picked up the pieces of companies that liquidated, and the others would have had to go through the courts to sort out their issues.

in the end it would have taken about 18-24 months to sort everything out, and get back to business. and when the dust had cleared, the economy would in fact be stronger than it is today, and it would have had solid growth early of about 5-7%, ultimately slowing to about 3-5% today. and the housing market would have been much stronger today if it had been allowed to hit bottom and clear out the garbage.

the economy needed, and still needs, a good cleansing if it is ever going to properly recover, and it wont be an easy thing to go through, but it needs to happen.

Most likely, we would have recovered from the recession. Government bailouts just prolong the recession and select some companies for failure.

Yes. Failed companies should be allowed to fail. We don't need government picking winners and losers.

Sarah Palin is a genius compared to the liar we have in the white house today.
