(CNSNews.com) - At 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the U.S. Treasury released its
daily statement revealing how the accounts of the federal government stood
as of the close of business on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

According to this official accounting, the federal government's debt that
is subject to a legal limit set by Congress stood at exactly
$16,699,396,000,000 at that hour yesterday.

That marked the fourth straight month that the U.S. government's debt has
ended up at exactly $16,699,396,000,000 at the close of each business day.

{snip}

--------------------

If I read this correctly, the US ran a deficit of almost $800 billion during the first 11 months, including about $275 billion since May, but the public debt has stayed exactly the same.

I hate to sound skeptical, but something is fishy in Treasury City.

As of 2011 Federal Pensions were underfunded by $5.7 TRILLION dollars.
I couldn't find 2012 figures but we've had two occurrences of the Treasury using pension money to keep from hitting the debt ceiling.

So what would that bring pension underfunding to..$7 or $8 TRILLION dollars.
And American taxpayers are on the hook for that.

Pensions are evil.

You can't continually pay people to do nothing.

If I'm not mistaken, a similar practice in the Teamsters union resulted in the feds basically taking over the Teamsters about 25 years ago.

For now. Laws can be changed. And they will be changed.

Anyone counting on a government pension for retirement is out of their minds.
