Joseph Manuel Hunter, Suspected US Drug Smuggler, Deported From Thailand
I used to watch Locked Up Abroad on tv. Mostly, it relayed cases in which Americans ended up in foriegn prisons because of drug trafficking.
Since many other countries have worse prisons and very little tolerance for drugs, and since this guy and his crew are obviously not small fries, why bring him back to the US? Why not just allow the Thais to take care of him the way we do with the small time peddlers?
Sounds like he's getting off easy. I could be missing something, I'm not so familiar with drug peddling, but it seems so much that this article is trying to make us happy that this guy is being deported. He's lucky.
This guy served in the Navy. It's well known that the US military has shipped drugs into the US. Maybe he was not 'wanted' by us until the Thais caught him, and he was rescued by us from spending time in a Thai jail with a Thai-long sentence?
