From the Washington Examiner - "A planned immigration reform rally will take place on the National Mall on Tuesday even though the site is closed due to the government shutdown.

Organizers for the "Camino Americano: March for Immigration Reform" were spotted Monday setting up a stage and equipment on the National Mall for the rally which will take place on Tuesday."

There we go. Aging WWll vets who fought for this country are barred from the WWll Memorial. Immigrants who snuck into this country get to have a fiesta on the National Mall. Obama meant it about transforming this country.

You know the National Mall is a big grassy field right? You can walk on it even during the shutdown.

Uh-huh. Read the article. It's short. Pelosi and Menendez are going to be there along with a couple unions. All the favored groups. You Democrats really don't get the optics of this, do you?

The argument has been that things like the WWII memorial has to be closed because there is no one to maintain security and clean up. Who is going to clean up here? Who is going to provide security?

I completely support their using the mall in this manner but it makes the argument that scenic overlook pull offs must be closed look like just what they are. Petty bitterness.

No, they actually barricaded the grass.

"The WWII veterans, from Ohio, Kansas and Missouri, arrived at the memorial one day after another group relied on the assistance from elected officials to move the barricades to allow access. Parks police did not prevent the first group from entering, nor did they interfere with Wednesday's group."

New wave of WWII veterans move barricades to access DC memorial | Fox News

"Central New York veterans got into the Iwo Jima Memorial on Sunday by knocking over water-filled barriers. Their three buses were then able to get in to see the landmark."

Nice deflection. (not really, it was pretty weak). How can the NPS provide for this but not people walking through a monument?

As has been noted, the WWII memorial is just as open as the National Mall. You just walk through.
