That's why only tax payers should be allowed to vote.
That might not work out that well as a lot of seniors don't pay taxes. That's been the only group that has voted reliably Republican in the past 12 years.

If you're going to accuse people of lying, the onus is on you to prove it, not just run your mouth.
That's how debate works.

Exactly.

because when you are paying 10-20% to the federal income tax
and are paying 2% to the feds for SS/medi
and you are paying 8% to the state income tax
and you are paying 20% to the local property tax
and you are paying 10% sales tax
and you are paying all the excise/sin taxes(to include a 18 cents federal and 46 cents state PER GALLON of fuel)

yes currently, I can write off the local property tax to the feds and cut the fed income tax down to zero, but I am still getting killed everytime I turn around with this tax, and that governmental fee

yes we are paying too much, when more than 50% of someones income goes to taxes...there is a problem

But you pay high taxes because you reside in NY, some of the best schools in the country are in NY. NY is still a low tax jurisdiction when you compare to London, Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt.

The point of the thread is to gain an insight as to why people think we pay too much in taxes when our tax rates are pretty low... Not that I think we should pay more or less.

And my point is comparing them to other countries to make your argument is not a good one. As I originally said you're trying to justify buying a Cadillac you can't afford becsue the the guy down the street bought a Mercedes.

You need to justify the need for a Cadillac and it's affordability, what the guy down the street bought is irrelevant.

Taxpayers do not feel like they're getting value for their dollar. On the federal level and for many on the local level.

We have treaties in place that obligate our troops to be there, so we would need to find a way to break that treaty. That may be tough to do, since those countries can reduce the size of their military as long as US forces are their.

Just look at Canada, they refused to help pay for a missile shield to protect North America, because they know we would protect mainland USA and Alaska. They know their country's southern and northern borders are protected by the USA, so they can get away with a military smaller in size, because the USA has their back.

Canada: 29%, $135,000 plus about 14% in provincial taxes.
Canadian income tax rates for Individuals - current and previous years

Go ahead and pay more taxes; that option is certainly available to you. I wonder why no liberal ever takes advantage of this opportunity to "put their money where their mouth is" and actually pay more taxes voluntarily.

I already pay over 50% of my income in taxes- I pay enough already.
