Matching mother-daughter Halloween costumes can often be charming, cute, or both. But they can also be considered downright offensive, especially if the matching costume is 'white trash,' and it's worn to an elementary school Halloween event.

A mother-daughter duo in metro Detroit did exactly that - and the reaction from parents and students were probably not what they had in mind.

I think it's funny and people are making too much of it.

There is much to be offended about in the world.
THIS rates so far down the list it isn't even visible!
Perhaps somebody called them "white trash" in the past, and this is their way of getting even. If so, good for them!

People are too sensitive.

Now what REALLY would have been funny is if they were black!

Doesn't Eminem prove that white trash is popular in MI?

This is just nuts. A white trash bag with "white trash" written on it is offensive?

I am from the South, where folks are called white trash and I can bet you, the people most likely to wear such an outfit are good humored WHITE TRASH, lololol. I grew up in a rural area and the most popular costume we had were Hillbilly costumes. Or a Boot Legger. Or a Farmer or Scarecrow.

This is silly.

The rest of that article referred to a Boulder, CO rule at some school or school system - that no stereotypical outfits would be allowed, such as Cowboys, Indians, etc.

GOOD GRIEF.

Wow. I remember all sorts of Halloween costumes when I was growing up that could be considered offensive if someone took them in a way other than the fun that was intended.

Personally, I find some of the revealing costumes where the wearer is almost naked something to be concerned about, especially around children.
