The development of new drugs and medical equipment will diminish under the control of the Federal Government because of the cost controls under ObamaCare. The United States has been the place where new drugs have been introduced in the marketplace first, because R&D cost recuperation is nearly imposible in Europe.
The free market has produced high tech medical equipment that has extended the life expectancy of every human being. This equipment would not have been developed in a system where the government is in control of product pricing, through regulation, and taxation of medical equipment and devices. The incentive to develop new products is removed.
"With the inevitable regulation of drug prices under Obamacare, the link between successful product development and revenue will be broken and the initiative to develop new drugs will have to come increasingly from government. The history of state control of consumer product development of any kind is not reassuring. In the former Soviet Union for example, from 1960 until around 1987, life expectancy actually decreased; even as it was increasing in the rest of Europe and most of the free world."
So much for all those idiotic right-wing arguments about ACA causing costs to rise. Clearly costs are going to fall so far so fast that pharmaceutical and medical device research will suffer.
One would think that a right-wing rag like American Thinker would be smart enough to save its arguments against single-payer until a single-payer system is actually adopted, or at least try to be somewhat consistent with the other right-wing claptrap that is being spewed. It's pretty silly when one right-winger is regurgitating the right-wing idiocy about so many people being added to the system (which would mean that the hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device companies are the big winners in ACA), while other right-wingers are leaving droppings such as this article on their blogs.
You notice that the above says..
"With the inevitable regulation of drug prices under Obamacare"
IOW, it is engaging in speculation, not reporting something that did or is happening.
Wait wait wait...Obamacare is evil because costs will rise in order to pay for the regulations.
Now Obamacare will make profits fall because manufacturers will need to sell their goods for less?
Which is it? Are prices going to rise or fall? You can't have it both ways at the same time.
Costs and profits are not the same thing. Costs can go up for any number of reasons, such as regulations, labor, or manufacturing supplies. Profits aren't strictly tied to consumer costs.
