Lower 2014 income can net huge health care subsidy - SFGate

This is an interesting article I came across while looking up the subsidy. Those making above the 400% of the poverty line $45,960 for single income filing, $62,040 for a family of two and $94,200 for a for a family of 4 are not getting the subsidy and face higher costs of healthcare. Many families are looking to cut down their income to levels that they could apply for the subsidies.

Thats fantastic news. With all these people demanding lower wages, the prices of products and services will come down. With all that deflation, the US will become more competitive then ever before. The country will once again be prospering. If you are right, the future is bright.

It definitely seems like there should be a sliding scale here though this goes along with how things like deductions for student loans work. Congress could pass a change that would address this, but they're too interested in acting like children and throwing a hissy fit.

Were this the 90's, you'd have smart conservatives putting forward ideas to make things better and getting them passed to appeal to voters. Since Congressional districts are mostly rigged now, that's not necessary anymore.

if I put in 65000 for a family of 4, my shares of Obama care, for the lowest bronze plan is 8.8% or 5,723

But If I drop my income to 45,000, I can have the better silver place for about 150 each month. 5.89% or 2,650

If I drop my income farther, to 30,000, my share of Obamacare is 2%, or $600 per year. $50/month for a family of 4. Probably eligible for Medicaid, which free medical, dental and prescription.

This is important:
If I made 65,000, I do not quality for any kind of welfare. $0. In the matter of fact, I have to pay tax.

If I made 30,000/year, I do quality for all welfare.
Obamacare: saving of 5k
Food stamp: 632 per month (NY) or 7586/yr
EIC: about 3800 form Fed,

Just this 3: 16k+ (assume 15% tax, that is equivalent of 18k pretax)

Who know what other welfare is still available.

So being "poor" in the US is not that bad.

You would hope but I don't see that happening. Why, because of the profit one makes off the higher prices. They blame labor and costs of good/services but I think that isn't the case as much as one would believe.

Yes, there are social programs there to help low income earners. You probably can't afford it, but go travel to some countries where there are big disparities between the rich and poor. Tell me how safe you feel and how will you'd be to invest in businesses in those countries. There's valid capitalist reasons for social programs to exist.

I know Americans aren't financially literate, but I would hope that even 3rd graders would know that losing $35,000 in wages is worse than gaining $5,100 in subsidies.

With all the other benefits, that poster spoke of, maybe not. Then you can take the rest of that money and use it elsewhere while health and food are covered...

No doubt about it. Same concept as welfare providing a disincentive for single moms to get married and an incentive to have more children in order to increase the monthly handout.

Not a doubt in my mind that there will be net negative consequences of Obamacare.

Congressional districts have always been gerrymandered. Did you just wake up from a century-long slumber?
