After stepping out of the shower and collapsing in his bathroom, one man woke up in the hospital 12 days later – with a $150,000 hospital bill.

According to a report by azcentral.com, 65-year-old Scott Richardson was transported unconscious to Mayo Clinic Hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz., in February after passing out and hitting his head on the bathroom floor.

Did he pass out again?

So pay and still not be covered? Call the local news station? Why should the resolution be secret?
quote:
The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com aimed at investigating consumer issues. Once Call 12 for Action got involved, Richardson and representatives for the program were able to negotiate with Blue Cross to reduce the out-of-pocket expenses down to $7,000 – the cost of his deductible. Blue Cross officials did not reveal how the charges were resolved, but a representative for the company said that Richardson’s case “underscores the complex nature of health plans and the myriad laws regulating them.”

Maybe he shouldn't have been cheap and purchased the $12,000/year bronze plan. But at least he has maternity care covered now.

Yeah, insurers try and get out of paying for stuff like that. Like this case, it was resolved quickly with contacting them.

Sorry, where does it say he had a bronze plan? That was not in the article.

...or are you making things up again?

I'm just relieved he now can't be denied maternity care for when he gets pregnant. That would be an expensive bill.

Oh, okay. You are just making things up again.

I am very glad I taught my kids the proper morals that doing that is wrong. I guess some people didn't have proper parenting growing up.

Man passes out while driving, crosses center median, strikes a car with a family of four, the family all die.

Headline: Man passes out kills four.

From passing out to the 150K bill, the middle matters.

Seriously, every time this happens its worth a thread now. Man has heart attack and wakes up with medical bills. Women gets in car accident and wakes up with medical bills. Man has stroke and gets medical bills.

Is there a point here?

and substance abuse coverage

I believe that $150k hospital bill will probably drive him to some form of addiction

It's not the bills, it's the size of the bills. I had a parent go into the hospital for only 8 days last year. Only got some drugs and few tests, no surgery... $84,000 She only had 10-12 meals during that week... that was over $1000

Two years ago my wife was in the hospital, and a Doctor (we had no clue who he was) stopped by her room and handed her a card. He sent us a consultation bill for $400.
