I have been watching those specials on TV about the John F Kennedy assassination. While the act of killing President Kennedy showed there was evil in 1963, the scenes of the people were eye opening.
1) The people were so well mannered and well dressed. Very few fat people, no tattoos, very few sloppy looking folks, men wore suits and ties out in public, women wore dresses.
2) The people interviewed seemed so sincere and nice. There was little of the harshness of today's society.
3) On the negative side, when they showed people of authority, nearly everyone was a middle age white man. My wife kept saying, where are the women? Where are the people of color?
It seemed like a different world.
Anyone else have observations about America in 1963 as shown in the TV Specials about John F Kennedy?
There is good and bad in the social mores of every generation. Our current "everyone should be able to behave/dress in ways that make them comfortable and we have to accept it whether we like it or not" standard is no exception.

Yes you're right, people were different in many ways back then, I enjoyed watching it just to see the ordinary folks on the streets, didnt see any fat people either, food portions and drinks were much smaller too back then,
Last week my friend &i went to a new place for lunch, we were asked if we wanted the lunch or dinner portion, we both ordered the lunch portion, turned out it was the size of a dinner portion I remember back then, have you noticed the size of drinks in the old movies, they wouldn't dare serve that size now a days
Plus, most people smoked 50 pell mells everyday either first hand or second hand, which had amazing restrictive powers on the appetite. In those days, you used the mashed potatoes to extinguish your cigarette. Nowadays, you finish the mashed potatoes.

OMG I remember people doing that with their mash potatoes in restaurants , wait staff thought nothing of it
I hadn't noticed in the shows I've watched, but I will look for it.
Yes, back then people dressed and acted respectfully. If they didn't respect the venue, they stayed home. They didn't get into a snit and demand equal whatever. They just shut up and minded their own business.

That was in the era before the food processing corporations pumped prodigious quantities of high fructose corn syrup into everything edible.

Back then the selling point for McDonalds was that you could get a burger, REGULAR fries (the only size they had), and a small soda for under $1. It was the "change back from your buck" campaign.
NOW, it's how BIG can everything be made, and free super-sizing.
The thing that drives my nuts is that all of my kids friends super size their orders habitually. It's mind numbing.
As for clothing, yes we are in different times. During the depression, even the poorest men in the soup lines wore ragged suits, overcoats, and hats.
Up until the 60s most people dressed well, even if just to go to the corner store for milk. My Great Grandfather never left the house without sporting a dapper suit and tie. He was a lowly barber in Brooklyn his entire life.
You only need watch a few old movies (Cagney, Bogart, Grant, Hepburn, Davis...etc.) to get a snapshot of how people dressed back then.
