Seems whenever firearms are discussed some have to call firearm enthusiasts names such as gunnuts, gunfondelers, etc. Then there is the obligatory penis comments.

So are these people considered gunnuts, gunfondlers and penis whatever?

Meet the gunnuts

A gun hugger

Rifle lovers

Nuts for guns

And let's not forget this gunnut.

And let's not forget this gunnut.

The woman learned to shoot in order to feed her family. She later used her skills to earn a comfortable living. She never, ever considered guns toys to be collected by the dozen and bragged about to other keyboard cowboys.

What's more, NO ONE in the country in her day, not even the still-young NRA, thought that every man, woman and child should be armed to the teeth so that when someone pops a screw, they could rush off to the local mall to slaughter people because "it's about freeeeeeedum!"

How many guns qualify as a nut ?
How many base ball cards qualify as a nut ?
How many cooking gadgets qualify as a nut ?
How many cars one owns qualify as a nut ?
Largely depends on the person making the observation and their absence of said collection.
To some among their piers 5 cars is a good start for a collection .
10 guns is hardly a collection, unless their are all the same thing, or a slight variation of .
10 different guns are likely meeting some expectation like having a set of tools . that's not a nut .One doesn't use a .454 for taking squirrels, nor would one use a .22 for taking a polar bear. (in their right mind).
My opinion.

Within any group of people or segment of society there are extremists on both sides of any issue. I'm about a pro-gun ownership as you can get yet even I cringe and some of the comments, even right here in CD that come from some gun owners or those supporting gun ownership.

Couple that with shows like those fools on the Discovery Channel (Red Jacket) where what should be professional and balanced firearms builders resort to in-fighting ala a soap opera, blowing things up and just plain making sure that the view of anti-gun people that lots of gun owners are nuts is justified. Red Jacket might be a really good custom gun builder but what does the public see? A company that devolves into the owner being verbally abusive to employees, the owner's daughter acting like a hustler and some of the employees with that gleam in their eyes when something big gets blown up. Yeah, just what gun owners need, their own version of life with the neanderthals.

Then read some of the posts on CD. We have our blow up ground squirrels with large bore rifles fans, the zombie gun sub group and then the folks with more ammunition than brains talking about fighting off everyone else when the end comes. All this and we wonder why some people see us as nuts. Top it off with some open carry people who never got over being scared of the dark in their own homes and there you have it, a public perception by the anti-gun folks that we helped create.

The gun control people have their share of nuts too, the ones that think anyone who owns a gun is a killer, except them of course because they only own a gun in secret to protect their elevated status in society. To them, it really doesn't matter much how many people die it is always more significant that some died because they were shot. Never mind that if you don't pay your taxes and resist all efforts to extract them from you, being shot and killed isn't impossible. Of course you'll be blamed because you did something to resist and therefore you got what you had coming. Add to that their warped idea of what innocence means because they will cry tears for years over a child being shot and killed but smirk and demand armed protection for a woman that wants to have an abortion 6 months into a pregnancy because of an epiphany that while the sex was good, having a baby wasn't something they thought about much, easier to blame the guy and claim it is their body.

Somewhere on both sides of the issue are reasonable people who disagree on root causes of violence and what part individual responsibility and accountability play and what part government's mandate to protect all in the society means limiting certain aspects of a foundation right without which the government would cease to exist and freedom would be a word lost to history.

There will be peace in the Middle East before gun owners and gun control advocates agree on most anything.

And how does that say she wanted everyone to be armed to the teeth and consider guns as toys, as we do today, and as I said?

I respect those people a hell of a lot more than I do the gun fondlers on this board who think guns are the solution to problems and are toys to be collected so they can show off to their friends and try to impress anonymous Internet strangers, believe that dead six-year-olds are collateral damage in the fight for "freeeeeeedum," and believe that all gun victims should shut up and not exercise their First Amendment rights to get control of the carnage because "they're toooooo emotional, wahhhhh."

You do realize that most of these folks would be considered gun nuts in the opinion of most of the anti-gun posters here. How about you?

No where on CD have I EVER seen a firearms enthusiast post anything like this. And if it ever was all responsible law abiding firearms owners would condemn it.
