I suppose you advocate for animal rights. To what extent should humans protect the sanctity of animal rights within the zoo industry?

None of my business what private owners do with their animals. Do I think its terrible to abuse an animal? Yep, but its a free country. I can take care of my pets the way I want, you should be able to take care of them how you want.

I consider myself a Libertarian and I don't see any conflict between libertarian ideals and animal protection laws.

Laws that really and truly protect us (not some of the dumb licensing laws like barber licenses) are fine and animals have no other protection mechanisms.

Then you aren't a libertarian.

At least on this issue.

As long as I have the right to eat 'em I'm not too worried about what other people do.

I do love rare prime rib. Can't say I've ever tried your basic zoo animal, though.

What about primates, such as chimps and monkeys? I mean. We are primates after all.

Animals do not have rights.

Animals do not have rights because they can not enter into a contract.

But humans have rights and we have obligations towards animals that are beneath us. For example we have obligations to insure animals are not mistreated or tortured.

I'll admit that I never really gave this much thought.

I know I want the least amount of government intrusion and laws governing my life.

But there are horrible people out there that will abuse defenseless creatures and I don't think it's much of an intrusion on them to say they can't do that.

Someone needs to be the animal's advocates since they cannot advocate for themselves.

No issue with this.
