My hope is that this will result in Americans being gun shy about going into future dumb wars.

Uh, even Dick 'Dr Strangelove' Cheney said Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11 so once again Harrier is plainly and simply WRONG.

To be clear, the terrorists started the war, until 2009, then it was all Obama. If every conservative was as narrow minded as you, the entire philosophy would likely have been dismissed as thoughtless and primitive.

9/11 was not a deceleration of war. Bin Laden and Al Queda did not represent a country, or even a religion. Al Queda was a terrorist group. Nothing more, nothing less. The actions of the group should not have been enough for our country to declare holy war on the Middle East, but sadly, that's what happened. Corrupt politicians twisted the attack into something more than it was. They turned a cowardly, uncivilized attack into a master mind plot and a formal deceleration of war.

Iraq and Afghanistan both were unnecessary. We may have helped Iraq a bit, but that doesn't change the facts. The war was based on a lie, there were no weapons of mass destruction and Bush knew this, and it simply wasn't our war. And Afghanistan is just simply a waste of our time. I know we want our silly revenge, but it's time to grow up. With the security advanced we've taken, another attack like 9/11 simply won't happen so long as we stop pretending we're invincible.

Afghanistan is out of our control. All we've done is keep and unstable world unstable. They aren't our problem. I'm all for world peace and all that, but we can't fight every war. We can sell weapons to our allies and people who fight for a better tomorrow, but we can't fight their wars for them. As the old saying goes, give a man a fish and he eats for a day but teach a man to fish and he eats for a life time. Same goes for war. We can give them some resources but we can't save the world. To appeal to the republicans, as Reagan said, we can't help everyone but everyone can help someone.

'Public opposition to the war in Afghanistan has hit a new high and is now well above even opposition to the war in Vietnam, according to a new poll.

The CNN/Opinion Research poll shows just 17 percent of Americans support the effort, while 82 percent oppose it.

The eight in 10 Americans who oppose the war is higher than any other recent conflict. As CNN notes, during the Iraq and Vietnam wars, opposition never peaked above seven in 10 Americans.

More recent polling, from March, shows 57 percent of Americans say it was a mistake to send troops into Vietnam.

Afghanistan war more unpopular than Vietnam
Well, its a good thing we are pulling out then.

A fine hope indeed but not one borne out by the reality of past behaviours.
