CNN - Would NSA surveillance have stopped 9/11 plot?

Unfortunately, I don't think the NSA would've stopped 9/11. I say this because President Bush was warned during his daily briefings several times about Bin Laden's plans to attack the U.S.

I don't think anyone's ever claimed Bush let it happen on purpose but a good case can be made that his administration's focus on Iraq compromised the assessment of threats from other areas.

There's a case to be made if they were calling numbers that were known to be connected with terrorists in other countries. I don't know if that's the case though.

No, I don't think he would ever do that. I think he brushed it off as not a big deal or he didn't believe that Bin Laden would really do it.

Did it stop Boston? Clues were everywhere and they missed it. I'm sure they can tell you who Janie is going to the Jr Prom with though.

Some people act like one may throw a brick across the width and depth of the United States. However, it is a huge country with lots of targets for evil people. No matter what, a determined person can create chaos and harm.

I never have blamed President Bush for the horror of 9/11. Perhaps if the various agencies had 'talked' to each other, it may have been discovered; but maybe not. It is all Monday morning quarterbacking.

Theres TONS of potential threats constantly. Theoretically I'd have to say "yes". But realistically? Nope. not enough data to transition into something we should have taken seriously. Im not a fan of president Bush, but theres no way he would have let this happen if he had known. Presidents care about the country, they want to do the right thing...thus the NSA also did not know, or they would have passed it along.
