I used to live in NJ. The GSP was chock full of chartered buses each morning bringing masses of retired folk, from the tri state area, to Atlantic City. Many parked themselves at a slot machine and brown bagged it, not exactly the image the casino sought to create. Nonetheless, the real money is being made off the slots, not food. No doubt, the Ozone Park casino is more convenient for many and some of the brown baggers likely diverted to the casino closer to home.

This casino has a food court with many popular fast food outlets and 2 upscale restaurants.
yes so 175 people out of work, no big deal..

I do not tip for services that were never provided. If I have to get up and get my own plate, silverware, and food, then bring it back to the table myself, then there is no one providing me with a service and therefore no tip will be forthcoming. Only liberal freaks are so stupid as to expect tips for doing absolutely nothing.
most buffets have waiters/waitresses, at least around here. They come take the empty plates and refill the drinks.

Ponderosa, Country Buffet etc

They were idiots to even seek a huge raise from a fledging business, when tip money can be lucrative. Surely having this employer on their resume will assist them with future applications, right? Who doesn't want to be shaken down for huge raises from staff?(sar)
So you choose to ignore all the facts that don't work for you? Did this raise cause the casino to close or just the buffet that was losing money to begin with?

This wasn't Ryans. More upscale buffets commonly have waitstaff. They provide info, usually get drinks, can arrange special request orders, etc.

Once again, restaurants at casinos routinely lose money, they are a loss leader to get people in the door and to stay at the casino rather than leave to eat elsewhere, thus not spending the rest of their money.

To pretend raising expenses has no impact on a business decision to close, is utterly stupidity which sets all sorts of records.

It certainly did not help it survive. Again pre raise, 175 had jobs. As long as it is open, it could turn around. Post raise, post closing announcemnet, 175 are jobless.

Welcome to the restaurant business, many restaurants fail all the time. Even your article states that it had nothing to do with the increase of wages.

Speaking of ignoring the facts..

The "increase" in wages comes out to about $50k A WEEK, (just the increase alone)..

If the business was already losing money, and per the owner, it was.. Where do you think the other $50K A WEEK was going to come from?

The business owner might have been willing to subsidize the previous losses, (and they were, because they were doing so).. but to say they are now going to be subsidizing millions more a year is completely ridiculous.
