The Obama administration on Friday proposed two new executive actions to make it easier for states to provide mental health information to the national background check system, wading back into the gun control debate after a months-long hiatus.
Hadn't seen anything about the new proposals, and the information was released on the "news dump" day of Friday, so here you go.
Compromises on the HIPPA regulation, and does anybody else see people beginning to lie to their doctors with this nationalized/private insurance hybrid called Obamacare? Do you smoke - nope, quit months ago. A vet at a VA exam - are you sleeping alright - yeah sleeping just fine..............

How would you propose we deal with the problem of mentally ill people accessing guns?

They don't. That's the hilarious part. The righteous gun nuts on this forum will swear up and down that they believe it's a mental health issue and slam the government for not dealing with it, but everysingle proposal to deal with it they reject, unanimously.
It's just a talking point for them to distract us from their complete disinterest in the problem. They feel they have to say something so that's what the NRA has picked for them … until push comes to shove, of course.

The process has been in place since GCA of 1968. Here, I'll save you a Google search:
Under the GCA, selling of firearms to certain categories of individuals is prohibited. As quoted from 18 U.S.C. 922 (d):
It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person— (4) has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution;

What more do you want?
If a person lies on their application to the gun dealer, they should be fined out the whazoo.

You have noted how one does not sell to someone mentally deficient.
You have NOT noted how one determines if someone is mentally deficient.

Then I guess you can show us where they dealt with the mental part in those proposed deals....
