I worked at Walmart as a young college student. It gave me some work experience that allowed me to move on to other jobs. I made $6.30 an hour. I would imagine that a number of these 300 might be opportunities for teens and young adults to gain experience. We still jobs for teens and young adults as over half of them are unemployed. Many of these kids aren't going to be able to start careers because they won't know how to actually work. Walmart taught me to work and allowed me to build a work ethic.

Yup thanks Walmart for paying so low you just added 300 new food stamp recipients, it is so good of you to train your employees how to file for it while working What a great service you perform. The jobs you create in China helps the trade balance and the cheap quality keeps them replacing everything in a few months. You do so much for so many!

That's a cute picture, but how is subsidizing Walmart workers through foods stamps, medicare, etc. not the definition of corporate socialism? And why are you right wingers so OK with corporate socialism, but not socialism for individual people, employed or not?

Why do you feel these types of jobs should pay less than they have in the past, due to inflation? Have the jobs become less valuable to an employer like Walmart?

And if it was something other than Wal Mart, say a Target, who still pays similar wages, what difference would it make?

What if there was something that paid better wages? What if Wal Mart had to raise their wages, not because of a minimum wage law, but because they couldn't staff a store unless they paid higher wages? I'm saying there's other possibilities.

Many of the 300 new workers in South Dallas were probably already 100% reliant on Govt assistance.
This at the minimum gets them working with the opportunity with promotions, increased wages and benefits.

This store should also be a hub to attract other retail and related jobs.

How are you going to get something with better wages when the government pushes those types of businesses overseas?

I agree, I'd love to see Wal Mart pay more due to market conditions, not going to happen.. Wait till they legalize the other 30M illegals here..

They don't have to do that though.
