The good thing is it forces the military to pay the enlisted non-officers more each month on their salaries.

Yep- right now IF they worked a 40 hour week they would make $8.74 an hour, after they get their first raise after the first 4 months of service. Notice that all caps "if", lots of them work way more than 40 hours a week.

They get housing, food, clothing, medical care and other benefits thrown in. The market value of those extras would push their wages well above the new minimum. Their income is almost entirely discretionary income. We should all have it so good.

That must be why so many people are clammering to join up that they never have trouble making their recruiting mission.... Funny, they do struggle to meet their recruiting goals.

Yes. I forgot to add, free training and education - often in a field that can transfer to a civilian career.

It does. BUT, only employees of contractors who have a new contract or a renegotiated old contract, and it won't take effect until 2015. It has been estimated it will effect about 200,000 workers.
Many (if not most) employees of Federal Contractors are covered by the Davis-Bacon Prevailing Wage Act. That means they are already making much more than $10.10 per hour.
The EO will do nothing for the lower enlisted ranks in the military.

Okay, that was my understanding also. That it essentially did nothing but allow for fake grandstanding.
