Why did they stop at 50 ?
Because of the Depression perhaps.
No, the Silent Generation by far had it the worst.
Really..they were getting married and knocking out babies like there was no tomorrow. They came of age between 1950 and 1964. They were born during the depression and there were a lot fewer of them competing for jobs. The "silent generation" forms a good part of the Republican base today.
Rampant ageism means that long-term unemployment affects the over-50 crowd MORE severely than those in their 30s and 40s.
