Most of us find it disgusting and abhorrent, but is there really any objective, logical reason to make it a crime?
It's true that pairing between close relatives can lead to birth defect if children are created in the union, but by that logic we shouldn't allow people with inheritable diseases to reproduce either, right?
It is much more than the act involved in incest which I think the OP is trying to reduce incest to being. Yes, it is wrong because of all the dynamics involved both physical and psychological. And, the "yuck" factor is over-the-top. It is becoming a problem especially with those that get so drugged up that any warm body will do. Sad. Seriously, date outside the family tree for best results.
This should go well. I personally do not care if two far distant cousins want to do the bump but when first cousins and similar relatives want to get together that's whare I would draw the line. But what do I know.
Most people today are unfamiliar with the fact that marrying cousins was not only not forbidden in earlier times in the US, but was actually encouraged in many cases. It was seen as a way to 1) consolidate family property, and 2) encourage desireable personal characteristics to be bred into the children. Does that sound like breeding livestock? It was. And in the 1700s and 1800s it was quite common. There was a lot of matchmaking in those eras. To this day there are only a handful of states that forbid cousin marriages.
Incest between parent and child, or between siblings is a different matter, subject to societal taboos around the globe since time immemorial. I think that's due to two key factors... 1) it can lead to genetic tragedies, especially in allowing recessive genes to come forward in any offspring, and 2) it interferes with the normal power relationships between family members and can result in coercive and abusive situations.
It has been proven time and time again the it causes birth defects, that in it'a self should be enough reason .
Selfish sex even if it's mutual , disregarding the potential disaster is wrong.
Say you are the product of this kind of event and cary significant birth defects, and knowing this is true and the people that caused this, what would you do/feel about them?
They are not loving, you are a mistake, due to their lust and selfish behavior.
