Crazy as usual. The voted to spend the money so refusing to pay the bill would be irresponsible.

To think this email is completely untraceable is laughable given what we know already about "spying"

Corporates work with static IP's.
VPN's work with semi-dynamic IP's
ISP's work with a cluster of IP's
Individuals can work with either depending on what they do…www or VPN
You really dont understand this stuff do you?

You cannot get the ip address of someone sending an email via the gmail web interface. Google does not put it into the email headers.

Now they could get gmails records....which will get them one of the above mentioned ip number ranges. Now pick out who sent it from there. yeah good luck.

Thats assuming of course that the people sending this didnt use overseas ip anonymizers as well. Possibly even multiple ones on a throwaway account, from a random open wireless hotspot.

If on the other hand they sent it from their work at say the senate....then they deserve to be caught. But even then its not as straightforward as you might think, you cant hunt them down without some legal access.

I could suggest other ways to find these people, if they're smart they will never look at the email accounts they sent this from.

They had a gmx account, not a gmail account.
And why aren't they considering this a terroristic threat against Congress ?

If the NSA can crack encryption they can certainly crack this.
