Lobster tail, steak, apple pie and ice cream... followed by lethal injection: The last meals of death row's most notorious residents

It was one of the final decisions any of these death row inmates were going to make.

But whether it be a single unpitted olive, lobster tail and steak or two pints of mint and chocolate chip ice cream, their choice of last meal could also be said to offer a glimpse into each of these prisoners' personalities.

The condemned murderer's chosen last meal should be placed outside in the hot sun for five days prior to serving. By that time, there should be some maggots in the meat.

Then the convict should be force-fed the rotting food. These animals deserve nothing better.

Interesting. The death penalty is barbaric, and puts us in league with some of the worst countries on earth.

What they chose was interesting, though.

I'm fairly certain that what these people did was far more barbaric than a lobster dinner followed by a lethal dose justice.

You're right though... our abortion laws are some of the worst in the world, making us barbarians.

Does that include innocent people wrongly convicted and sentenced to death?

The single most uncommon thing about the last meal is that it is eaten.

The bigger and fancier the last meal is, the more likely it is that the condemned will ask it to be passed around to be shared the others on death row. The small meals tend to just go uneaten and are thrown out after the execution.

Many prisons will only offer what they have in the kitchen these days. Increasingly, special last meals are no longer offered at all. The condemned can only choose from what is being offered in the dining hall that night.

A lot of American executions were always thought to be peculiar, back in the day when other nations also executed prisoners.

The British used hanging, and they never allowed a special last meal or any final words. On the day of the execution, the objective was to hang the condemned as fast as possible. Their most famous executioner, a man named Albert Pierrepoint, carefully worked it all out early on, and once hanged a man in 7 seconds flat from first to last.

Other British colonies did the same.

The French were also fast and allowed no last words. The condemned was guillotined within a very few minutes with no ceremony throughout the 20th century until the practice was discontinued. The guillotine was not used on a platform as it had been earlier; it lay flat on the ground.

Few other countries ever messed with electricity or gas. Firing squads were most often reserved for only the military, nobility, or retired officers.
