The coins may be from a 1901 gold heist from the San Francisco Mint . If this is the case the couple is only entitled to a finder's fee. Goodbye $10 million.

That's one way for a thief not to get caught. Never spend the loot you stole.

Saw on the news that the San Francisco Mint issued a statement saying they have no record of a gold heist during that time period and have no intention of investigating the matter. (CBS Evening News, Western Edition)
