Uh; are you saying slavery is Ok? Like an African CAN'T stay in the US or Europe and MUST to back "home" because his country says so? That stinks of plantation slavery in 1860.

I didn't get that vibe, I got the vibe this person wanted them to go back to their home countries to help them progress and succeed, instead of losing their best and brightest to the US.

I know what you mean; but, that poster's answer to me hit me real wrong since it smells of slavery.

It took me a minute to figure out what I think you're trying to say. Are you referring to the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850?

Fugitive slaves? African students going abroad for 5 years to get their master's degrees are neither fugitives, nor slaves. Actually, I think the governments of the sending countries should pay the tuition for those students so they can get degrees at really good institutions. And in exchange for that they then come home and help their own countries. What's the problem with that? It is a deal benefiting both those countries and the students.
I am against brain drain because it is a huge problem for Africa. We have more than enough educated people in the West, we don't need to steal the brightest Africans in addition to that, when they are desperately needed at home. It is mere egoism on our part because we don't give a damn about whether non-educated Africans want to live in the West. We send them back when they try to overstay or we don't even let them in to begin with. So don't tell me you are interested in Africans' free choice.

Like I said: IF an African WANTS to stay in a rich country AND is willing to obey OUR laws, they can stay IMHO. That ain't "stealing". Sheesh!

Africa needs to fix itself; we don't owe that a place a thing.

Let's see what happens when a group of 21 year old Nigerians go into a redneck bar in the deep south.

That'd be about the same as 21 year old anglo white dudes going to an inner city bar in the middle of Detroit. Hell; I sure as hell would NOT go into your "honkytonk" down south either and I'm def "white". Sheesh!
