The "Christian God" has been evolving for years to reflect the wants and needs of a society. One can learn much about a person by getting to know that person's perception of god. When a person's god is, for example, against gays, that means that person is prejudiced against gays.

Kind of. Actually Jesus reflected the emergence of a more civilized society. The god of the OT reflected a more barbaric time.

It was all a metaphorical tale designed to appeal to the common man. He died for everyone is the story. Very populist.

Well they had to make the bible appeal to various groups so they had to use themes and traditions from previous religions and beliefs. Very populist like you said.
