Captain Phillips had a $55 million budget and has since grossed $107 million domestically and $217 million worldwide, but Abdi reportedly hasn't seen any bonuses or extra paychecks despite the film's success.

Barkhad Abdi, the Somalian actor who had a big part of the movie earned $65,000 for his role in Captain Phillips. "Sometimes, when a studio is embarrassed by negative PR like this ... it tries to correct things.

And Hollywood has the nerve to preach??

While I agree that his earnings seem low, he was completely unknown and entirely new to acting. They also don't know ahead of time how much it will earn. Maybe he gets something on the back end but it is too early to know what that is having just been released.

And he likely won't see any bonuses or extra paychecks.

There's nothing more screwed up than Hollywood accounting......well, other than US politics.

Response to the bold: Why would he ???

Did his contract say he would get a bonus if the film grossed X amount ???

If not, then he is just pissed that he didnt make more.

My Guess is Tom Hanks got about 20 million of the 55 million dollar budget.

The guy wasn't an actor to begin with. Wasn't he a NYC taxi driver?

And seriously.....look at him. I don't believe it's in his future to be a leading man.

He took the job, he agreed to the terms, he got paid.

Unless he had a contract entitling him to benefit from the proceeds, what's his beef?

He should get an agent and audition for more roles if acting is what he wants to do.

I agree that Hollywood is nothing but a bunch of hypocrites, but this isn't one of those times.

But you miss the point of Hollywood hypocrisy. Why? Because Hollywood is now a source of (liberal) propaganda and you buy every bit of it.

Why is it that people swoon over hollywood actors who do nothing for you.

They drive huge luxury SUV's or exotic sports cars that get nine miles-per-gallon (downhill, with a tail wind), live in 20,000 square foot, 12-bedroom mansions with theaters, bowling alleys, indoor pools, multiple kitchens, etc., which require heating, air conditioning, lawn maintenance, and generally suck up massive amounts of power -- mostly from coal-fired power plants (which the politicians they're supporting are trying to eliminate.) They travel on privately-chartered jets and get around city streets in limousines large enough for 10 occupants but carrying just one.

When someone agrees to take a job at McD's they are doing the same thing but you defend Hollywood or doing it. So it's ok for hollywood to pay so little when they make so much? They also think they are better. Gwyneth Paltrow, another member of Hollywood royalty said

"I love the English lifestyle, it's not as capitalistic as America. "I like living here because I don't fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans,".

Needless to say, she hosted a fundraiser for Obama in London. She said Obama is for giving the little people an opportunity to succeed after all.

Democrats' and Obama slammed Mitt Romney and other rich people for the same thing during the campaign but, of course, is silent when it comes to celebrities. Can you say "tingle"

Hollywood stars tout the the income-leveling agenda of Obama-while enjoying a sybaritic lifestyle (multiple houses, servants, nannies to act as proxy parents, chauffeurs) that make them the 1% of the 1%.
