You know, just when you thought you have heard it all, comes this -

Quote:
Allah doesn’t want Muslims indulging in all-you-can-eat buffets.
Saudi cleric issues fatwa banning all-you-can-eat buffets | Fox News

I may agree and/or disagree with various religions and their tenements, but on this one, I would have to say, the cleric is on the fringe of ridiculousness. And they want to know why others ridicule their religion.

Well, here you are -
Quote:
"Whoever enters the buffet and eats for 10 or 50 riyals ($4-$13) without deciding the quantity they will eat is violating Sharia (Islamic) law," Fawzan was quoted.

I don't know anything about his religion nor do I know anything about him.

Does the order seem ridiculous? Yeah..sure.

But no more ridiculous than fasting for lent.

Most of the restrictions issued by religious leaders are supposed to be for the good of the faithful.

This seems to me like it fits. Many customers abuse all-you-can-eat buffets and get unhealthy. Sounds like he is trying to prevent that.

I find buffets to be pretty sickening myself. It's like an orgy of gluttony.

Half the customer base are bunch of slobs.

This.

I remember about 5 years ago I was working in Indianapolis and there was a Golden Corral right next to my hotel. Everyday at 4:30, like clockwork, the fat folks would begin to line up about 25 deep waiting for the 5pm dinner opening. It was repulsive.

It really is. I try not to do chains anyway. Nothing worse than sharing oxygen with a group of slobs at Furr's or Golden Corral.

To hell with that...I'm ordering my food...not eating from a trough.

In many religions, gluttony is a sin.
