Best Democrat ever - Grover Cleveland.
Best Republican ever - Calvin Coolidge.

Only presidents since before the Civil War to campaign on and actually deliver smaller federal government. Coolidge was easily the most libertarian minded president since Madison, and the last of his kind.

Astonished there are votes for Andrew Jackson as the best Democratic President? Populist, slave owning, dueling, genocidal Andrew Jackson?

I'd go with Theodore Roosevelt and Eisenhower as two Republican Presidents that I'd have no qualms voting for, given historical context.

Best Dem: Kennedy

Best Rep: Reagan

They might have been politically different but they were both alike in the way that they believed in this nation and its people!

I would tend to agree on both these. I would give Cleveland a slight edge though, because Coolidge did little to reverse course on things like prohibition and imperialism which had arisen between the '90s and the '20s.

In that order.

Best Republican President? Abraham Lincoln
By today's standards he would make Obama look like a conservative.
Lincoln campaigned on left wing policies.
He was the most liberal republican in US history.
