Republicans would love to back 'Diversity' arguments where Asians are declaring they are being discriminated against to shield the fact that racist white Republican males, STILL PREFER to deny blacks equal opportunity by any means necessary. After all, the ultimate goal for the crybaby Republican is always to deny blacks equal opportunity.
So the bottom line is that you think a racist law is bad if it does not help black people.
Black people are talented and very innovative, but there dont seem to be too many going into fields that would get them jobs in Silicon Valley. If more were interested in learning coding or writing programs, coming up with the next big thing in Silicon Valley, you know darn well they would be hired or even start a company. It's not a field where quotas work. Tell your kids to "study like robots" and go into fields that will get them into a job in Silicon Valley, but don't expect an automatic entry to fill some quota.
That's what marijuana legalization supporters say about their cause. If marijuana is so bad, why is there no landslide support to keep it illegal.
Affirmative action is racist because it does not judge people on merit. It lets unqualified people into a field just to fill a quota.
Do you think there should be a quota that says 83 percent of doctors in Detroit for example must be Black to reflect the racial demographics of that city ? Even if it means letting in unqualified people ? Would you trust a surgeon to perform surgery on you if you found out he or she only got there because of affirmative action ?
Do you realize how many barriers there are to becoming a doctor?
You can't possibly become a practicing physician ONLY because of Affirmative Action. That's ridiculous.
Why you guys keep using that dumb analogy goes over my head.
So Democratic senators in January passed SCA 5, which would have restored racial and ethnic quotas that were stripped from California’s public-university systems in 1996 following statewide passage of anti-quota Proposition 209.
On a percentage basis of before 209 and after 209 - whites lost the most and Hispanics/Latinos gained the most. It's really the Hispanics that would probably lose with a new affirmative action law that would take a giant step backwards.
Ethnic Group Enrollment Percentages in Freshman Enrollment
of University of California (numbers are in %)
African American === 1994 - 4.3% 2010 - 3.7%
Asian American === 1994 - 37.1 2010 - 39.8
Chicano/Latino === 1994 - 15.2 2010 - 20.7
White === 1994 - 36.2 2010 - 26.8
The other corollary is the increased % in African American graduation rates - those that prepared enough for acceptance to the California State Schools have done well. That is pretty much the case with all the ethnic groups.
Quote:
Chicano/Latino enrollment percentage, after several years of decreases, dramatically increased from the lowest 11.3% in 1998 to 20.7% in 2010. In contrast, White enrollment percentage, after achieving a high of 40.2% in 1997, decreased significantly to 26.8% in 2010. Asian American enrollment percentage remained stable.
The acceptance rate, or yield rate, is about the number of students who accepted their admission offer. Asian American acceptance rates are much higher than other ethnic groups, that means they have a stronger intention to enroll UC. The ratio of Asian American acceptance rate over the rest groups acceptance rate got higher along years (124.3% in 1994, 137.5% in 2010) that ensures their high enrollment.
Colleges and Universities have to get back to a 4 year program - the norm is now 5-6 years to get a degree. Part of that is because they have to bring too many students up to a level to even begin their college curriculum and part of it is all the fluff courses that kids take.
