Sadly, this happened just up the street from us.

I'll wait to see the toxicology reports but they're hinting at a pills / pot combo.

To borrow a tactic from the pro-gun crowd, didn't HE kill his wife and not pot, pills or the gun?

Did the Karma Kandy Orange Ginger load and fire the handgun? No?
Did the handgun load itself and then kill her? No?
Assuming neither of these 2 are true, responsibility is all on Richard Kirk and whatever mental issues he may have.

What's especially troubling is the DPD's response time. There's a station just up the street.

Yep, when seconds count, 911 is just minutes away.

Exactly... and that is a good sized police station.
They're quick to pop anyone zipping along University or coming off I-25 too fast.
Potentially lethal domestic situation? ......... <<<crickets>>>

Hemlock is an "ancient herbal plant," too, as is oleander and nightshade. Shall I roll you a fattie?

Don't get me wrong, I'm for legalization, but that "it's just a plant" argument falls flat on its face, and could actually be used against you.

Also for legalization but I will not be planning a trip the Poison Garden.
(Along the lines w/ your plant notes)

I'm actually all for the legalization of Hemlock </sarcasm>

In truth, though, I'm a firm believer that any law which is aimed at protecting a person from their own decisions should be abolished. Of course, I feel the same way about warning labels. After all, if you need a label to tell you that you shouldn't use a hairdryer while you're in the shower I'm okay with letting Darwin's theory prevail.

Wow, four pages of "but alcohol is bad too" comments.

Adding pot issues on top of alcohol issues is not going to make alcohol issues vanish.
