The State Department plans to spend $400,000 in taxpayer dollars to purchase a camel statue for the new American embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan.
The sculpture by artist John Baldessari depicts a fiberglass camel staring into the eye of an oversized needle in play on a passage from the New Testament about the difficulty the wealthy have in entering heaven, BuzzFeed reported.
Oh, our government is just so poor. They are responsible with the money they get...they wouldn't waste the taxpayer's money. If you believe that...I have a bunch of money in Nigeria I need some help getting into this country.

These lying, irresponsible jackasses in both parties that treat the taxpayers like idiots and their money like crap, deserve to be strung up. Maybe the old tar-and-feather routine needs to be brought back in style.
The department came under scrutiny in December after commissioning a $1 million sculpture to be installed at new building at the American embassy in London in 2017. The purchase was defended as a "good use" of the agency's resources.
Last Year, The Washington Times reported that department spent about $180,000 on alcohol in September and $400,000 in all of 2012, three times the $118,000 spent in 2008.
Records obtained by the paper showed that alcohol spending went up at American diplomatic posts around the world. The purchases included nearly $16,000 for bourbon and whiskey in Moscow, and more than $22,000 for wine in Tokyo.

We need a clean sweep in D.C.! Far too many politicians and government employees think they are entitled to spend tax dollars - after all, isn't this money unlimited and at their disposal? It can't ever be used up because more keeps coming in all the time, so "let's party!"
I think they'd be a bit more careful if it was their own money they were spending.
Officials explained the decision to purchase the piece of art, titled “Camel Contemplating Needle,” in a four-page document justifying a “sole source” procurement. “This artist’s product is uniquely qualified,” the document explains. “Public art which will be presented in the new embassy should reflect the values of a predominantly Islamist country,” it says. (Like the Bible, the Qur’an uses the metaphor of a camel passing through the eye of a needle.)
Now, that brings up the question of why "officials" of the United States State Department are so willing to mix "church and state" over there on embassy property, but would be against doing that here at home. After all, we are a predominantly Judeo Christian country so why shouldn't "public art" reflect those values here on government property?
Plus, what message are they sending to Pakistan and Muslims, where the average annual income is $1200? Are they saying that it's better to be a poor Muslim because they'll get into heaven before a rich man would?

Where is the Atheists Against Religion group? Why aren't they protesting this expenditure of our money? After all, it's their money too.
