Should the use of cannabis be regulated like alcohol or tobacco and now vaping so that it isn't permitted in public (many cities declare it illegal so consume alcoholic beverages in public) except for certain venues?
Perhaps discount tobacco or vaping but there is no second hand alcohol issues. If not, why not?
Outdoor use of tobacco shouldn't be regulated. I can drink outside.
In many cities and places you cannot drink alcohol in public except where it is sold (and regulated as to who can sell it). This thread topic was generic in scope, not what happens in one place.
For example, you can buy a beer at games but you can't bring it into the venue. In a lot of places, drinking out in public, say on a sidewalk if often illegal, the same for smoking tobacco (in the case of tobacco, close to any public buildings).
More to the point and perhaps I should have started the thread asking:
Should the use of cannabis in the public be regulated as is tobacco, alcohol and now soon to be vaping?

It depends....
Where are we talking about here? Sidewalks, parks, and other truly public places? I don't think tobacco use SHOULD be banned or regulated in those places, and following that logic, neither should marijuana. That said, marijuana is an entirely different beast than tobacco. Ingested in even small amounts, marijuana has the potential to intoxicate and impair ones judgement, motor functions, etc. against their will. That is just not so with tobacco.
Honestly, the comparison between tobacco and marijuana doesn't follow, for the reason I just listed above.
If we are talking about private businesses with outdoor patios that are sectioned off from public sidewalks and places like that, then the decision to allow or disallow the use of marijuana should be left entirely to the business owner, just so long as he places a sign outside the business indicating whether or not Marijuana is permitted.
So your answer is that smoking marijuana should NOT be banned in the same way that smoking tobacco is?
I'm curious..... do you support bans on smoking tobacco in public?
If so, why do you feel that marijuana, a substance that can impair ones judgement and driving ability etc. is more acceptable than tobacco, a brief exposure to which causes only a minor anoyance?

I don't think smoking should be banned the way it is. I said that in my first post.
