Why does it matter? They have something the ivy league wants...

They're graduating from a fairly rigorous private college prep school. A 3.7 from GDS isn't the same as a 3.7 from other DC public schools which, I'll admit, graduate valedictorians who are not proficient at reading.

Obviously that IS affirmative action, as no white kid would even get an interview, let alone accepted, to an Ivy League school with a 3.70 high school GPA.
my GPA was only a 3.575 and I got an interview with Cornell( and they had no idea what color i was), so you are wrong.

Yes................... black skin. I thought that intelligent and "enlightened" people evaluated others based on character, credentials, and accomplishments, not skin color?

I thought the Supreme Court just ruled against affirmative action and upheld the rights of the states that do not have affirmative action laws?

GPA of 3.70- With current grade inflation, you could be nearly brain dead and achieve a 3.70 GPA at most public high schools.

That is far below the average admission GPA to Ivy League schools. We did not learn about their ACT scores or SAT scores. Perhaps they all "aced" the ACT with a perfect 36 and the SAT with a perfect 2400. That would certainly merit admission to an Ivy League school.

In the absence of perfect ACT or SAT scores, the 3.70 GPA would not warrant admission for any white kid. Given that, why should any black kid gain acceptance with such a GPA?

Then why is it that Blacks with college degrees have unemployment rates as high as Whites with only high school diplomas?

Give me a break- those are terrible high school grades;you must be a minority.

What was your ACT and or SAT?

I can say that at our local Catholic and public high school, there are MANY 4.0 GPA students and at least one who gets a perfect ACT or SAT (that one student usually gets into an Ivy League school). Beyond that, there are MANY students with 4.0 GPAs (these are at very good high schools) who have ACTs of 33-35 and SATs 2100-2300 WHO DO NOT GAIN ADMISSIONS TO IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS.

I know the head of Wells Fargo Mortgage division. He is a member at our Country Club. His kid had a 4.0 and an SAT of 2300; he got into Dartmouth, probably only through is father's connections. Incidentally, his father went to a "second tier" state college in our state. One of my older son's friends (who has the identical name) had a 4.0 and 34 ACTs; he got into Brown, only because he played (and does play) football.

Are you saying that the schools just don't like white people?
