NC has been a great state for a long time. I agree that the unchecked power of the Dems led to curruption, but in the few years that the republicans have had power, they have set us back decades. They dismantled our education system, sold our natural beauty to Duke Power, and took peoples land rights and gave it to a bunch of out of state frackers to destroy our land and water, and walk away with the benefit while we will live in a West-Virginia-looking torn apart state. The budget was balanced for years, and any current NC budget issues are a result of the downturn that all states saw, and were further exasperated by the GOP GA refusing ACA money as a political stunt. The citizens of NC rose up (Moral Monday) to express their unhappiness with the GA and their reaction was to trample their constitutional rights and throw them in jail (which has all been ruled against since).

NC was in fact built on a good education system, and an attractive workforce. 10-15-20 years down the road that will all be gone as a result of the decisions made by Tillis and Co., and they will find a way to blame "the other party". It's very sad.

NC (Charlotte and Raleigh/Durham) did not become home to two of the fastest growing cities in the nation as a result of a legacy of bad decisions. Those decisions ENABLED that growth, and everything that Tillis and his croneys have done in the past few years is undoing it.

Really sad (and angry!)

[EDIT: Regarding the debate, they both did nothing but read pre-written talking points. Neither had anything to say, but at least her record shows a (the most) bipartisan past, and a lot less lies and hipocracy than Tillis. The guy preys on the stupidity of those that support him, and does so with shockingly much success.]

It is a Circus and the clowns are in charge. The public will be the main attraction on the high wire without a net.

The biggest problem with the Repub. is the fact that they will not accept the Medicaid expansion. They like to use the line that they cant untill they fix Medicaid. That is the weakest statement I have heard yet. They then can't put together a balanced budget. John Hood (Fiscal Con.) put out a column, which was in the Salisbury Post, stateing the budget was not going to meet reserve requirements. Their Guy Art Pope bailed out after the budget mess to avoid the fact he created the first mess. This Tillis is the worst choice to send to Washington.

Using quotes independent of the context is politics 101. They all do it. The anonymously funded Super Pacs , regardless of party, excel at it.

Sadly, Tillis is the best choice of two poor choices. NC got into difficulty after decades of democrat spending. Medicaid could not be accepted because it would fall on all of us taxpayers to pay for it once fed funds stopped. Remember that it's under Dem rule that teacher standing (and student achievement) fell to nearly the bottom of the list. Republicans had nothing to do with that.

No state can continue to spend the way Washington DC spends -- that is the road to financial ruin for everyone.

I have no problem with tobacco, but "proud progressives" sure do. It's laughable that you could try to claim that NC is a "proudly progressive" state when it derives so much of its income from something that "proud progressives" are so virulently against.

Kay Hagan has done a good job for the State. She even saw the problem with the VA in 2008. The Repub. in Congress blocked all action on the VA untill people died. Mr. Tillis shows why you should not vote for someone who can't Balance a state Budget. Under his watch the State had a $250Mil. shortfall and they are allowing another Tax cut for Corp. only as of January,2015. This type of shortfall only grows over time.
The Medicaid expense is paid at 100% for 3 years (by our Federal Tax Dollars) and after that the State only picks up 10% with The Federal amount going to 90%.

The Repub. in the state started using teachers as a boggie man in 2010 and have created a situation which Senior Teachers are opting out as soon as they are able. The problem is that with the changes made by Mr. Tillis et al new teachers are hard to find as in our society you go where the money is.

Check out the debtclok.org and watch as the Fed debt is going in reverse.

You know, I saw in VA a person driving a 30 yr old vehicle with a Romney sticker on it

Thomas Frank Book here describes :What's The matter with Kansas, they vote against their own interests.

Yes, and where does the Federal gov't get their 90% that they cover for the states? You're dreaming if you think some family, somewhere, isn't paying for that.

There are many positive things happening in NC. You're just listening to the wrong recording. Some of the other side of the coin is that NC is way ahead of its repayment of its Federal debt. NC is trying to rein in costs and get rid of debt. Not a bad thing, but democrats wouldn't understand that. They love spending other people's money.
