The only thing on the internet that should be regulated is purchases.
If you insist, let's leave it to yours only....mine are my business and none of the prying eyes of the rogue US federal government.
FWIW...the federal government has proven to be an enemy of the people during this century and is getting worse by the day. The less we interface with them the better.
There's nothing stopping ISPs from doing today what you claim they "would" do if NN didn't pass. So you want a law which limits how a business can function, to solve a problem that doesn't exist.
Super-awesome-o. This country is getting dumber and dumber by the minute.
Actually, carriers are already slowing down internet for competition such as Netflix. . and forcing those companies to buy additional infrastructure for data that these ISP's consumers are requesting (as part of a promised net speed of 50mpbs or whatever).
Until there is actual ISP competition, these companies will need to be reigned in. I would prefer that competition be forced/come in. but I'm with Obama on this one.
You see,, using its monopolistic power as an oligopoly, Commcast screwed it's many hundreds of thousands of paying customers who had paid Netflix for streaming. They gave their paying customers the finger and then extorted Netflix into paying extra to send traffic into the Commcast network. And why did Commcast act this way? Because they sell a competitive product in their own television and movie streaming.
Yep, THIS is the free market that the right wing ideologues and the free market weenies are defending - the right of Commcast to screw their customers, extort a content provider, and maybe make more sales of their own product. What happens when comcast buys Time Warner and controls news outlets as well?
Seems to me we want real level playing fields, not more advantage given to the practitioners of monopoly.
So yes net neutrality is a Good Thing. Too bad there are so many whose knee jerk reaction is to defend the indefensible.
By keeping it neutral, all websites have an equal chance at being viewed, sent to the viewer's home at an equal amount of time as any other website.
By not keeping it neutral, some websites could pay for faster service to a viewer and therefore throttle (slow down) the speed of other websites.
An analogy would be:
Independent gas stations are allowed to set up a gas station anywhere and when they do finally make their gas stations, the large corporate gas stations are allowed to build their gas stations bigger and better and right in front of the independent gas stations thus getting all the independent gas station's customers (they wouldn't see the indie gas stations.)
Its up to the individual then to know where the cheap gas is, isn't it?
Should all radio stations be required to operate at exactly the same power? Or if you can afford more power shouldn't you be able to up your transmitter? The other stations are still there, if they are worth listening to you can still find them.
Keep the government out of the operation of the internet. The power to control is the power to censor.

you don't get it. please use google to find out what net neutrality is.
neutrality in common man parlance means, 'no governmkent intervention'.
