Mexicans have it easy compared to other groups. The bosses want to hire them, because they work cheap and can't complain and they get paid off the books so there is no tax. The government makes it law for us to love them - we have to teach in their language, print everything in their language, have half the tv channels in their language, observe their holidays and on and on. Regardless of what they do in this country, it is very hard to kick them out. If a state passes a law that tries to enforce the immigration laws of the country, the people of that state are labeled racists and boycotts are started. No other immigrant group got this kid gloves treatment.
BINGO from this third generation Pocho.
My immigrant forefathers would laugh and spit upon this idiotic study.
The status dropout rate declined from 12 percent in 1990 to 7 percent in 2011. Reflecting the overall decline in the status dropout rate between 1990 and 2011, the rates also declined for Whites (from 9 percent to 5 percent), Blacks (from 13 percent to 7 percent), and Hispanics (from 32 percent to 14 percent). Over this period, the status dropout rate was lowest for Whites, followed by Blacks and Hispanics. For example, in 2011, the status dropout rate for Whites (5 percent) was lower than the status dropout rates for Blacks (7 percent) and Hispanics (14 percent).
Who’s more successful: The child of Chinese immigrants who is now a prominent attorney, or a second-generation Mexican who completed high school and now holds a stable, blue collar job?
The answer depends on how you define success.
In fact, according to a study by University of California, Irvine, contrary to stereotypes, Mexican-Americans are the most successful second-generation group in the country. The reason is simple: The study considered not just where people finished, but from where they started.
Depends how one looks at it. A much larger possibility to really jump up the ladder when one starts at the bottom than when one is near the top. Like improving your test score from 90 to 95. You missed half as much. 70 to 80 you missed 1/3 as much.
The reason is simple: The study considered not just where people finished, but from where they started.
This is true for every immigrant group, first generation struggles, second has more success and the 3rd usually are totally assimilated. The 4th, which is most people in my age group where I live, never knew what it was like to not be anything but an American and they are not pushed as hard because generally their success is solidified, they live in the right areas, they and their children attend the right schools and generally keep the right friends. Failure is either through lack of effort or failure to chase after the dream.
Chinese are smarter because they aren't messed up or distracted by religion.
This definitely deserves further investigation.
