Is it a Crazy idea, to send ALL Felons (anyone with 1 year or more to serve)
to a "SUPER JAIL", (probably somewhere in the mid west/Central United States?

What would be the consequences (fiscally/financially) to the States.

And what would be the consequences (Physically/financially/ mentally) to the
prisoners themselves, and/or the families they leave behind.
?

Personally, I think there should be 1 City, and it would be guarded by a giant wall and gun towers.

People would be free to move around as they like, and have their own home,
but they can never leave the city until their sentence is up. (if ever).

Well, excluding the problem of paying for such a massive facility, decommissioning the old ones, and transferring all prisoners there, I don't think it would be feasible. Think about it-if you have millions of people in one space, you'd have to create an entire city from the ground up just to hold them! The amount of space required to build such a complex would be so massive and impossible to obtain that it could never happen. Even if it somehow did, it would be an awful idea. Either it would have to be nice enough that it would totally defeat the point of prison (to scare people into not doing crimes) or bad enough to a point that it would drive every single prisoner into rebellion. Think about that-over 2.5 million in one space?? It would be equivalent to an army (with a very bad temper)!!! I'm sorry, but the idea's insane and impractical and would never work.

I'm pretty sure you could find lots of cities who would be willing to sell and move out for the right price.

Alaska would be a better destination....less chance of survival if they break out.

Why not just release nearly all of them. and have a peaceful civilized prosperous society like Norway?

You've solved the problem of dealing with the men behind bars, but what about the two million children who have to grow up with their dad's in prison, over a thousand miles away, who will never have a respectable job again in their lives? What does your plan do to address that social issue?

I've always thought that a big island somewhere in the middle of the ocean would be a great place to put felons, especially lifers. Some shark infested waters around it and some gun boats to make sure no one tries to leave .

Let the prisoners fend for themselves, grow their own food, and do whatever it takes to survive. We could drop in the raw materials to keep their crops going and let them provide the labor. No work, no eat.

It would be much less expensive than our current method and I bet it would make people think twice about committing crimes if they knew the consequences.

So did you just watch Escape from New York, or what?

This is a terrible idea, of course. How could any prison staff keep track of so many people? How would they provide medical care, hand out food, or break up fights? You'd need a literal army of guards to watch over this place, probably a hundred thousand or more. Otherwise You'd just be creating a giant, horrifying slum. Every single nightmare anybody's ever had about Detroit, Philadelphia, St. Louis and NYC in the 70's combined into one.

Not to mention every felon with one year to serve or more would be a LOT of non-violent offenders. You'd be forcing every single person in the prison system to become a member of a street gang just to survive.

Yes, one grand jail... And then the government will confess that there was an accident... A gas leak, they said... The building went up in flames, all by accident, they'll say...
