I've considered myself an Independant Conservative for some time now.
But the older I get the more I find the Libertarian philosophy of paying your bills and keeping your nose out of other peoples business is in line with my way of thinking.
But there's one thing about the Libertarian party's platform that keeps me from officially aligning myself with them.....their namby-pamby foriegn policy.
In a perfect world we would not have to play police force of the world.....
But it's not a perfect world and if we don't assume that role then someone else will.
And personally, I'd rather be the police than be subject to whatever country assumes that role once we abandon it.

Question.
What conflicts should America have been involved in, and what was our national security concern?
Afghanistan? We could have taken out the leadership of Al Qaeda, the Taliban is not the enemy of these United States.
Iraq? based off of "terror" and eliminating threats to the homeland before they occur, then it was about stabilizing the region, really all that boils down to "The middle east has to much oil, effects global markets, and hurts the US economy" which could have been done much cheaper, and provided us with a domestic energy supply. Notice how the "We need to get in Syria now" crap died down after we started producing more oil at home? This is not coincidence.
Libya? Egypt? Ukraine (nuclear war, not good)?
No we are playing world police because our allied nations cut back on their defense programs knowing that the good ole US will have their back. Thats bull ****.
No, we don't need to play world police. Protect the borders, leave the rest of the world to its own devices. If we are attacked by a nation, unleash hell. Its that simple.

That's about how I see it. At any rate. Good points.
I, too, am more a Right-Libertarian than anything else. (To the extent labels are necessary.) But, like the OP, I find most major Libertarian candidates go off the rails on foreign policy. The world has become far too small a place for us to 'mind our business'. We have allies and interests all over the globe. We can't wait for the enemy to be on the George Washington Bridge before we load our weapons.

What enemy? We haven't been invaded since the war of 1812.
What wars do you think we should have gone to that we didn't?

Um...there was this thing called The Cold War. You should google it. Also, we had a spot of trouble on 11-Sept/2001. There may have been a mention or two about it in some of the papers.

Which we won, whats your point? That was also over 30 years ago. I don't get my panties in a Wad over Korea or the fact that we didn't take Canada when we invaded during the revolution and war of 1812.
The libertarian argument against militarism in foreign policy is that a large military establishment necessitates a stronger central government, higher taxes, and greater media control.
If you are interested in exploring these issues further, you can read a lot more at Antiwar.com
It's a libertarian site, but it publishes anti-war analyses from all nooks and crannies of the political spectrum. If you really want a non-mainstream take on US foreign policy, this is the place to go.
