The Washington Redskins are, of course, the professional football team from Washington DC.
The gist of it was that the Washington Redskins were tired of their name being associated with a bunch of caricatured clowns doing silly dances and chanting about unknown legends, hostile to the people who tried to make a home here, unable to hold their liquor, etc.
So they decided on a change.
Henceforth, the team will simply known as the Redskins.
So in light of the LA Clippers debacle will the Redskins now be forced to change their name.
This is yet another hill that conservatives are going to die on.
It is amazing to me how often conservatives align themselves with the racist position voluntarily and defend it vigorously.
Look, this very simple, it doesn't matter what someone thinks about the name.
Here are the two sides of the debate.
On one side are some people who say the name is racially offensive demeans their cultural heritage and others who say they are offended by the name as well.
On the other side are people who say screw those people and their feelings, the name stays because we want it to stay. Freedom!!!!!!!!!
Anyone who is objective because I don't care about the name of that team can see who is going to win ultimately.
There is no way we would tolerate a team name the Chicago Black skins or the Detroit yellow skins, and so the only defense is that it is ok to do it to the "redskins" because they don't really count in this nation.

Thanks for the accurate and detailed history of the American Indians, your fairness an regard for them is unmatched.
I'm taking bets that more care than do not, they can change their name now or drag it out and look foolish.
This controversy heats up every now and then. Been going on for decades.
When the Atlanta Braves got really good in the 1991 baseball season the attention on that nickname became magnified. They had been horrible for so long that it was a good opportunity for opposition to get out the message while the media spotlight was on the team.
The Redskins have been pretty terrible the last two decades. Since winning the Super Bowl in the 1991 season they've only managed 3 playoff victories in the past 22 years.
Of all the NFL teams to have played continuously since the 1991 season only the Chiefs, Lions, and Bengals have less playoff victories in that time.
If Washington put together a Super Bowl run I'm sure the outcry for a name change would go up several notches.
So in light of the LA Clippers debacle will the Redskins now be forced to change their name.
No.
