"Girls as young as 9 years old are eligible to be married if the signs of puberty are visible," said Council Chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani.

"Parliament should not create laws which are against the teachings of the Koran."

Such was the norm in the small village in Swat Valley, a conservative region in Pakistan near the Afghan border. What's unusual is that she escaped.

"I was forced into marrying a man who was 20 years older than me," Adnan said. "For 20 years, I stayed with him and endured his abuse and mental and physical torture — he made me suffer."

Last time I looked this is Pakistan and thank God the Koran isn't the book of our land. Not everyone's problem in the world is our problem.

While I also agree that this is totally wrong, we're NOT the world police. So if by chance you would like to change this, I'm sure there are flights to Pakistan leaving tomorrow.

Good Luck.

This isn't allowed all over Pakistan either.

That being said, the faster we move on from these archaic practices of religions, the better.

Their prophet muhammad married a girl about that age, so yes it's cool in areas that function under sharia law. Reason 1 million that no religion should govern any land. It's all crazy.

Why is this posted in the Politics forum?

The Muslims on CD don't come to this forum.

Unless you're looking for an echo chamber OP, this should be posted in the Religion - Islam forum. Only there will you get true opinions from this demographic's finest.
