People who want to control other people's lives use the term "trafficking" rather than "prostitution" because they want you to think that prostitutes are coerced and enslaved. But that's usually not the case. Trafficking and prostitution are unrelated terms. Trafficking should be illegal. Prostitution is a lifestyle choice and government should have no control over lifestyle choices.
------------------
"Super Bowl host cities typically see a jump not just in tourists, but also in some crimes, including human trafficking and prostitution," San Francisco's KGO warned earlier this month on Human Trafficking Awareness Day, an annual event held every January 11.

"The good news is that we are continuing our efforts to fight human trafficking," San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón said the same day. "The bad news is that the problem continues to increase."

Gascón made his comments at a press conference deliberately tied to the big game, in anticipation of a wave of "trafficked" sex workers descending on the area.

That term–not "prostitution," but "trafficking"—is a deliberate choice, selected to confuse people accustomed to the plain language established over the long history of the buying and selling of sexual services. The reason why is obvious. While the trade in sex was once frowned upon in itself, that's no longer necessarily the case.

You are right. Prostitution should be legal for adults. Trafficking is forced prostitution. It should be stopped if at all possible. I think if prostitution was legal, it would cut some of the market for trafficking.

Trafficking in humans means no more and no less the selling of human beings to others for profit. The buyer of other humans do so for a number of illicit purpose, sex work being just one. Prostitution can be voluntary choice but don't be deluded into believing that women and children are not forced into involuntary prostitution.

And after being forced they are branded criminals to boot to stomp them into the ground some more. Aren't lawmakers wonderful?

These are different problems:

Providing sexual services between consenting adults should be just another business subject to government regulation suitable (health checks) to the services.

Using children as collateral for debts, common in many Asian economies, should be completely illegal. Trafficking, another word for slavery, is already illegal and the appropriate laws need to be enforced.

That is the way England does it. Prostitution is legal but profiting from someone else doing it is not.
