Glacier melt in the Antarctic is due to volcanoes not global warming according to a new study by researchers at the University of Texas, Austin.

Researchers from the UTA’s Institute for Geophysics found that the Thwaites Glacier in western Antarctica is being eroded by the ocean as well as geothermal heat from magma and subaerial volcanoes. Thwaites is considered a key glacier for understanding future sea level rise.

"Evidence for elevated and spatially variable geothermal flux beneath the West Antarctic Ice Sheet"

Institute for Geophysics, University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX 78758
Edited by Mark H. Thiemens, University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, CA, and approved May 8, 2014 (received for review March 19, 2014)

The title of the study is listed on the post above, along with authors and dates.

pfft, as soon as they read this thread they will be frothing at the mouth and pounding their keyboards to tell us that texas is wrong, the researchers are idiots, that global warming is the cause of everything bad in the world, that we dont have a clue, that the report actually came from a blog and not a real scientist, etc. we are going to be deluged with excuses as to why we are wrong on this, and they know all, see all, and tell all taht were are deniers and only they know the truth.

Missed one - the oil companies paid for the report.

So even if this is true does it address melting in the Artic? You know the end of the globe where about 1% of the ice melts every year.

Yes, volcanoes melting polar ice totally disproves the simple theory that adding heat trapping gases to the atmosphere leads to more heat being trapped in the atmosphere.

Tax volcanoes!

It's spelled almost the same as Dan Quayle spells potatoe (fatally sic).

Have you read the actual paper? I am betting you haven't.

If you had, you'd see that at no point do the researchers deny that man-made climate change is contributing to the eroding of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet. They simply provide evidence that volcanic activity is also a contributing factor. This has actually been suspected for quite some time, and is hardly news.

Once again, anti-science fanatics spin stories deceptively to suit their twisted ideological agenda. I don't know how you people sleep at night...
