You have it backwards buddy. Roosevelt (Democrat) wanted to enter the war but was opposed by isolationist Republicans opposed to fighting Hitler and opposed to lend-lease.

He can't be talking about the Interstate highway system that planned and built by the Eisenhower administration? Tell me it isn't true. Few people even remember that they were originally called 'National System of Interstate and Defense Highways' because there are sections in it that could/still can be converted to airplane landing strips in case our airports took a direct hit. Our interstate highways are important, kids, and need to be kept up.

We still spend more on defense than any other nation on Earth, by quite a lot.
Germany, Japan and Italy had fanatical land grabbing leaders that no-one in power today can compare to.
US isn't down to 130k troops either we have the largest, most advanced and expensive military in the world.
Advanced and most expenssive, yes. Largest? Not by a long shot: Russia: 3,000,000; China: 2,300,000; India: 1,300,000. Have not checked other countries. Technically Russia only has 1,000,000 on active duty and 2,000,000 in reserve, but Russia has always called its reserves up at the snap of a finger.
