Problem is -- and this is the core issue with the subject -- government doesn't equal business nor business government.
They run on different lines for different purposes.
And plenty of companies have run for years in the red -- only it's called re-organization, re-financing and chapter 11 protections. Look at how many times Donald Trump for instance has gone bankrupt only to reappear again and again. 4 or 5 times now.
No company in the history of the world has lost $1 trillion over the course of 12 years......and still been in business.
But in the last 12 years, it's estimated -- because, of course, the government isn't efficient enough to get an actual number, but rather a "projection" -- that the U.S. government has had $1 trillion in fraud in their Medicare program.
$1 TRILLION dollars. Gone.
Government doesn't equal business nor business government, but this is the kind of results we get from government.
You shouldn't be defending government -- you should be screaming for their heads.
But the US Government isn't a business. It's not a company. It's not here to make money. Breaking even would be nice...but too many things (like natural disasters and the debt we owe our veterans) make that difficult if not impossible.
Maybe you should stop screaming for people's heads and start understanding that this isn't a matter of 'profit-and-loss' but 'the greatest good for the greatest number'.

"The greatest good for the greatest number"?
At what cost?
You're missing the point -- the government is riddled with waste, and that waste is avoidable
The government doesn't have to be a "business or company" to NOT **** away $1 TRILLION dollars of taxpayer money. It can be a government......just get rid of the waste. This has NOTHING to do with natural disasters or the debt we owe our veterans. It has everything to do with a complete lack of accountability in our government.
I know Mr. President that your a radical socialist and have absolutely no clue how the business world works. However get this thru your thick socialist head any business that are not efficient and have a lot of waste can’t compete. And if you are completely inefficient and continue to be inefficient, you are also out of a job, which in government your not.”
You think Obama is a socialist?
Your OP would have more credibility if you understood the definition of the term.

Blah blah blah
The typical "waste" argument.
Every day someone having an issue of "government waste" but can never identify what government "waste" exists (and how much).
The government doesn't live by the same rules as people or businesses. Accept it, get over it, and move on.
Businesses aren't wasteful? Good god that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Look at any overpaid CEO or failed product rollout. Look at the damn donut shop down the street that throws them all out at the end of the day.
Righties can't get their brains out of Econ 101. Another great thread from Gretsky99 where he gleefully shows us all how little he knows about anything.
Lift the monopoly on first class mail and see what happens to their reliance on the USPS.
Do you really believe that (1) FedEx or anyone else in the private sector will deliever a First Class letter for 44 cents or a piece of third class mass mailing for even less!!! (2) Do you really believe Fed Ex or anyone will bother with RFD or spend the money to drive (so called Star Routes) 10s of miles to deliver a single letter? (3) Deliver anything in many urban neighborhoods where on any given day there may be a one in ten chance that their mail carrier will be mugged or assaulted? and (4) make delivery to even the most remote addresses in the heart of Africa, Middle East or Oceana by going to the trouble of working with all the foreign posts agencies? I'm amused that when I order a book or other item from Amazon it is delivered by the USPS because Jeff Bezos knows a good deal when he sees one - USPS is much cheaper than FedEX, DHL or UPS!!!
BarackO The Whackoâ„¢ will have this as his legacy: More corrupt than Nixon, more inept than Carter.
He IS NIXON!
Think about it. Even Nixon had the class to accept his fate and bowed out.
Fast forward 40 years.
We have a President who has the worst foreign policy in history, doesn't know anything until he sees it on the news, and gets a pass based on what? Okay this was a test. If you instantly thought "because he's black" ... ding ding ding
I would BET MY HOUSE that both sides instantly thought that, either for or against him, left or right.
Doesn't that say a lot about where we are in the division of this country?
When are we going to become colorblind and call out a really horrible president for being... REALLY HORRIBLE?
BTW, the 1% love him! Isn't that a clue?
