Thousands (not hundreds) civilians were murdered in the East by the ukrainian military (not by russians or the rebels). If you don't trust the "russian propaganda" which is much more credible than the corrupt western media that absolutely silent about the ukrainian military forces crimes, then go to the UN, OSCE, Human Rights Watch etc. websites and read their documents regarding the issue. This is in case, if you really want to objectively and honestly find out the truth.

with a SU-25 --- now I read that it was _ascending_ , so probably not.

What I find fascinating (in the can't-look-away-from-the trainwreck sense) is how they cannot pick a narrative and stay with it. Look at this thread - the OP postulates that there were Ukrainian fighter jets behind MH17, jets that pulled away to drop bombs. Which led to confusion among the heroic self-defending missile crews. That (really, really stupid) idea has now morphed into some sort of plot where Ukrainian fighters used, for some utterly bizarre reason, both air-to-air missiles and guns to deliberately shoot down down MH17, which would achieve something vaguely undefined for Ukraine.
You'd think a former KGB officer could build a decent foreign propaganda arm. This crowd can't even be internally consistent - it's throwing everything at the wall ad see what sticks. Old Soviet propaganda at least had the capability of picking a version of events and staying with it. And if they couldn't make up a good story, they'd have enough brains to shut up. Putler's new fans are so - junior league? - in comparison.
