Look at medias roll in the events of the world.
All the way back to the days before TV media.

If you controlled the medias message, you could easily control the thoughts of the people.

For centuries the media was controlled by those that owned the printing machines and the means to publish the print.
The revolutionary war with England and a few of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were printers and publishers. Their message was what persuaded a very small segment of people to act upon their message.

To combat this, the federal government created an agency during the Wilson administration, to police the message. The FCC still monitors what message is put out to the public.

Mainstream media today. Owned by partisan people. Each has the message they want to get out. Rarely either progressive based or conservative based, the entire truth is never ever revealed any longer.

Investigative reporting on politics, has been labeled taboo, no matter what network is airing it. The government has to be intimidating someone, for those exposing the truth, to lose their jobs abruptly.

Then comes the internet and the free exchange of information, without government censorship.
In the last 4 years, the push to regulate the internet has been on the rise from the Federal Government.
Wonder why? I doubt it.... You know exactly why they wish to regulate free speech, like they did with all media in the progressive era.

The media controls the message. The government controls the media.
Investigative reporting has gone to the internet.
The government wants the keys to the internet.
Freedom from oppression is at stake.

Except for the fact that there are numerous right-wing media outlets and the internet can never be truly controlled. Me thinks you are confused and believe the world news sources are something they are not, otherwise the only news sources would be Left leaning under a Dem controlled government or Right leaning under a Repub controlled government, neither is the case.

This about sums it up.
The MSM via TV has been successful.

The internet and independent journalists are where you can get your real news.
And of course they get poo-pooed off as "not credible".

Case in point.... Ron Paul was a big hit in internet political reporting and polling.
Both Progressive and so called Conservative media, never spoke his name, but to lie about his character.

They are doing the same thing with anyone that identifies as a Constitutionalist today.
The media controls the message. A constitutionalist in power would ruin those that now control the media message. So the media will do what ever it takes to make sure a Constitutionalist never makes it to the whitehouse steps.

After all, The Constitution is too extreme for slaves of the State.

Fox has their message. Rarely the entire truth. Just enough to set their agenda.

They made him out to be an eccentric quack both in 2008 and 2012.
His ramblings were to be dismissed.
They did give him more airtime in 2012 though but with the same underlying message.."Ignore this guy".

Ron Paul, DSK, Spitzer are examples of men who were going against "the system" and each one was brought down and removed in their own way with plenty of media attention and propaganda to seal the deal.

Over 90% of all Mass Media is monopolized by only 6 Mutli-National Corporations-their world views can often be strikingly similar.

The media only controls the people in proportion to their ignorance. Any person who thinks the media is anything but a business is deluded. They are all as biased as is any individual human being. People should place no more credence to the "news" than they would their babbling neighbor. If people do not actively seek out as many viewpoints as possible, they know virtually nothing about anything.

So I would think, actually hope, that the majority of people have some ability to think for themselves. With that belief, I look not at the "message" as controlling the world but rather a more ancient and inherent source of control. Money.

“Let me issue and control a nation's money and I care not who writes the laws.” Mayer Amschel Rothschild

Our Central Bank members control everything that goes on in this country, not the media or the silly politicians that are indebted to them for their very existence.
